I thought we were friends?

I’m just confused I guess. Like do people think, black people think this is fun? It’s not.  It’s been very sad for black people. We are looking out at a world that feels like it’s closing in on us. We are having a convergence of our past, present, and future.

We are forced to reflect on all those racist moments growing up that we have all suppressed deep down inside of us, so that we can be productive/happy members of society. A society that daily shows us we are less than. In the present we have a president that has pushed us in front of the killer(cops, covid, white supremacists) then ran and hid. The worst character in a slasher movie. A tyrannical “leader” leading us into a future that is uncertain. A future that feels like our demise is imminent . Everyday black people and allies are fighting for a future that is  brighter for EVERYONE. The thing is black people have been poked and prodded over centuries until we were shaped to withstand this kind of violence and oppression. We are pushed down, then told to get up. Every few years black people are pushed too far. This is one of those times. The fight for justice and peace can’t be won in a day, a year, a decade!!! So sorry if this movement is annoying to you. Get used to it. You have the privilege of complaining about verbiage of a statement, “umm excuse me it’s all lives matter”, while I’m the black life that is actually trying to matter. This is a call to action for those who have remained silent. Those people we called friends that faded into silence like Homer Simpson fading into the hedges. Open up your ears and listen to the stories of the oppressed. The stories of those people that are hurting. Stop trying to prove your point and listen to ours.  Understanding is the key. Even if you aren’t standing in our way, your silence is. Your silence is distracting, it’s imposing, it’s misguided. If you don’t say you’re against injustice then it seems like you are for injustice. There are only two sides right and wrong. Don’t be on the wrong side of history. It is time for vigilance and fortitude. Maybe if black people and allies don’t let up on the neck of America, they will understand our pain.
